Ruark Lewis-t (1960), Ausztrália egyik legizgalmasabb és legkevésbé definiálható kortárs művészeként tartják számon. Born in 1960, Ruark Lewis is today acknowledged as one of Australia’s most intriguing yet elusive contemporary artists. His exploration of place and time has seen him work in a truly hybrid manner with language, performance, sound, installation, painting and sculpture. The result is a poetic output of inter-disciplinary character.

Ruark Lewis is renowned for his linking of art, poetics and political discussions. His method, which he calls 'transcription (drawing)', often takes the work of other artists—composers, poets, choreographers, anthropologists and fellow visual artists—and transforms it into abstracted text embodied in sculptural installations.

Lewis has exhibited and performed extensively since 1987 including the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, the Art Galleries of New South Wales and South Australia, the Berlin Poetry Festival and the Sprengel Museum, Hannover. He created RAFT with Paul Carte, for the Art Gallery of New South Wales, and other commissioned works — for the 2000 Sydney Olympics, 2006 Biennale of Sydney and Performance Space at Carriageworks. In October 2008 he created a commissioned installation for Toronto’s Nuit Blanche festival.
